An Evening of Poetry with Naomi Shihab Nye and Becky Crouch Patterson

Writer and poet Naomi Shihab Nye will read from her poetry and answer questions from the audience. Becky Crouch Patterson, author and designer, will also read from her work and answer questions. The event is free and open to the public. A love offering will be taken.

Naomi is a Palestinian-American poet, editor, songwriter, and novelist, who composed her first poetry when she was six years old. She has written over 35 books, and received numerous awards. In 2019, the Poetry Foundation designated Nye their Young People's Poet Laureate for the 2019–21 term. The foundation's announcement characterized Nye's writing style as one that "moves seamlessly between ages in a way that is accessible, warm, and sophisticated even for the youngest of readers.”

Becky Crouch Patterson - author, artist, designer - is a 5th generation Texan and the product of her historic Stieler Hill Ranch and pioneer family Hondo and Shatzie Crouch. She is a multi-media artist having designed western boots, hats, clothing. As a liturgical artist for 40 years she’s made many stained glass windows and church furnishings, including the windows and kneelers at St Barnabas. Her 3 Texanna collectible memoirs are Hondo My Father, (endorsed by James Michener), The Ranch That was Us (foreword by Willie Nelson), Luckenbach Texas Center of the Universe ( award for 1860s stories). She is the first woman to have a solo show at Museum of Western Art in Kerrville .
