Understanding Confirmation, Reaffirmation and Reception
Confirmation
Rooted in the baptismal covenant, Confirmation in the Episcopal Church is a sacramental rite in which a baptized person makes a mature and public affirmation of their commitment to Christ, affirming the promises that are usually made at baptism by their parents or godparents, praying to receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. Find out more here.
Reception
The Episcopal Church understands that many people begin their faith and spiritual journey in other Christian fellowships. We recognizes and honor those spiritual journeys, Baptisms, and or Confirmations, and we welcome you into the fellowship of the Episcopal Church to continue that journey.
Reaffimration
For those who may have been away from the church for a period of time and want a new beginning. For those who sense that they are at a new stage in their spiritual life and desire to formally affirm this in ritual. Reaffirmation provides a rite for those who want to take stock of their spiritual life anew and publicly "reaffirm" their Christian vows.
Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost Sunday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles of Jesus Christ. Join us as we celebrate this gift!

Women's Retreat
Lord, Teach Us to Pray
When Jesus’ disciples asked him to teach them to pray, he gave them one “simple” prayer, “The Lord’s Prayer.”
This prayer proves to be the pathway to the Source of life and strength for those who long for a deeper communion with the Partners who are God. By the end of the retreat, we will know, perhaps as never before, why Jesus gave this one particular prayer. It’s the prayer he lived.
Sponsored by The Daughters of the King, this women’s retreat is open to all ages and gives us the chance to invite friends in and outside our community.
Together we will move slowly through each petition of the Lord’s Prayer with brief teaching, guided meditation, and live acoustic music.
Saturday, April 25, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (lunch included) in the St. Barnabas Parish Hall
Led by the Rev. Stephen Kinney, PhD, and the Rev. Karen Poidevin
Music provided by Joshua Dodds, PhD – singer/songwriter in an intimate Americana/folk style
All women are warmly invited to come, to rest, and to let Jesus answer the disciples’ ancient request, “Lord, teach us to pray,” in the very particular contours of your own life today.
Contact the church office at 830-997-5762 to register

St. Barnabas Yoga: Embodied Prayer
We are excited to launch a weekly space for the practice of yoga in the New Year!
When & Where:
• Day: Every Tuesday
• Time: 11:00 a.m.
• Location: Parish Hall
What to Bring: Please bring your own mat.
About The Yoga Practice:
This practice is an intentional time to connect, to heal, and to find peace and freedom in body and mind. The core intention is to actively work out our prayers in our bodies—releasing tension, anxiety, pain, and grief while finding rest, joy, peace, hope, and love through embodied prayer.
Who It's For:
• Newcomers: The practice is gentle, inclusive, and a wonderful foundation for those new to yoga.
• Veterans: We especially welcome veterans, offering an invitation to go where you need to go within a supportive and gentle practice.
• Everyone: We hope you will find this a welcoming space for community, wellness, and spiritual practice.
Instructors: Hosted and instructed by Michelle Papan, Alison Pounds, and Laurie Avery-Cohen.

Lenten Dinner Series
Lent is a Holy Season in which we are asked to strip away our masks and anything else that separates us from God and one another, so that we may fully experience the joy of Easter. Join us on Thursday evenings during Lent, to share a simple meal and appreciate musical performances and presentations by fellow parishioners and friends, who will share about their passion for their craft and how the highs and lows of their journey reveal their true self, in God.
Thursdays: February 26th, March 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th.
5:30 p.m. Supper
6:00 p.m. Program
Childcare will be provided during the Program, from 6-7:30p.m.
We are thankful for our Kitchen Manager, Elizabeth Loggie, and to all of our volunteers, for assisting with food preparation, set-up and clean-up.
We also express our gratitude to the following individuals for leading us in music and reflections:
Brynn Bowyer
Emily Bowyer
Dan Dyer
Ben Edgerton
Jeff and Graham Hammond
Duncan Holmes
Bette Jacob
Landon Miller
Knox and Anna Marie Schroller
Taylor Tatsch
Jackson Wynne
